In Memoriam: John Scott, ASID

John Scott’s legacy within ASID and the Illinois design community is one of unwavering service, leadership, and generosity of spirit. A dedicated ASID member since 1983, John devoted more than four decades to advancing the profession he loved, always leading with integrity, kindness, and a deep belief in the power of design to make a difference.

John’s impact was felt at every level of the organization. He proudly served as ASID Illinois President from October 2014 through September 2015, guiding with thoughtful leadership and a steady vision during his term. His commitment continued locally as he jumped right in to help the Chicago Peer Group from 2017-2019, where he fostered connection, mentorship, and collaboration among his peers. Throughout the years, John was a steadfast supporter of Illinois advocacy efforts, generously giving his time, voice, and expertise to champion the profession and those within it.

In recognition of his many contributions, John received numerous awards, each reflecting the respect and admiration he earned from colleagues and friends alike. More than the titles or honors, however, John will be remembered for his warmth, encouragement, and tireless dedication to uplifting others. His influence endures in the community he helped shape and the countless lives he touched. John Scott will be deeply missed, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations of designers to serve with purpose and heart.

John became president of Keevan Sadock Design, the nearly century-old firm he and his partners purchased from the founding family in 1985. His work touched countless private homes, corporations, financial institutions, professional firms, and country clubs throughout the Chicago area. His legacy lives on not only in the spaces he created, but in the warmth and joy he brought to everyone who worked with him.

His family will host a gathering with wine, refreshments and the music that shaped his life on January 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cheney Mansion, 220 N. Euclid Avenue, Oak Park.
